Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth, Udaipur, is a beacon of education, culture, and social transformation in India. Established in 1937 by the visionary, reformer, and educationist Manishi Pandit Janardan Rai Nagar, the institution began as a literacy and education movement for the underprivileged and marginalized communities of Southern Rajasthan. From these humble beginnings, it steadily grew into a vibrant center of learning dedicated to the ideals of self-reliance, inclusivity, democratic values, and cultural preservation. In recognition of its remarkable contributions, the Government of India conferred the status of ‘Deemed-to-be University’ in 1987.
The institution was founded with the idea of creating a center of learning that would remain deeply rooted in Indian values yet remain open to global perspectives. Pandit Janardan Rai Nagar envisioned an educational movement that would bridge the gap between traditional wisdom and modern knowledge systems. He believed that true education must awaken both the intellect and the conscience, preparing individuals to face challenges with courage, creativity, and compassion.
Over the decades, the University has expanded its horizons, offering diverse academic programs in humanities, sciences, social sciences, education, law, management, health sciences, and emerging fields of research and technology. The University has received many awards few of them are National Excellence Award 2015 for Community Services Excellence, Public Folk and Cultural Award by Hon’ble President of India; FICCI Award for working in the field of Rural Development; and National Child Development Award by Hon’ble President of India. The University also got good ranks at national level by IIRF and Unirank. The University has also achieved University of the year 2021 from the academic insight and created a record of maximum participations in an online quiz while lockdown period of India due to COVID-19.

The Vision of the University is “equitable knowledge empowerment of masses by blending the modern means with conventional values, execution of problem oriented research leading to policy interventions and extension services linked with quality improvement in life of the deprived classes and marginalized group, especially tribal population.”
