The Udaipur School of Social Work, founded in August, 1959, is a constituent unit of the Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (Deemed-to-be- University), Udaipur Teaching & Training The two year (four semesters) postgraduate programme in Social Work is conducted through class room lectures, tutorials, seminars, as well as field instructions and practice. It aims to prepare students to take up practice of Social Work in a number of settings. The programme provides for general preparation based on the underlying unity and identity of purpose in many fields and is of a generic pattern in the first two Semesters. In the third and fourth Semesters in view of the need for specialised knowledge and up-to-date and complete information in some of the important fields, special elective courses are offered as per student's choice based on merit and the regulations of the school. Medium of Instruction The medium of instruction in the School is English and Hindi. Since most of the books on Social Work are in English, students are expected to have proficiency in English. Rajasthan, being predominantly a Hindi speaking area, working knowledge of Hindi is essential in order to communicate with people in the field practices. The students have the option to write University Examination either in English or Hindi.

There is a wide spectrum of employment opportunities available after the completion of the course. In industrial sector, and other such establishments, those who specialise in Human Resource Management, may be absorbed as Labour Welfare Officers, Labour Officers, HR Managers etc. The M.S.W. from the School is recognized by the Central and most of the State Governments for the appointment of Welfare Officers under the Factories Act, 1948. Its graduates find employment in the fields of Family and Child Welfare; Social Welfare; Correctional Administration; Integrated Child Development Schemes; Institutional Care for Socially or Physically Handicapped, Rural Health, Rural Development & Other Developmental Sector etc.
Udaipur is well connected by air, bus and train services. The School is located at the Univesity Campus at Pratapnagar, about 6 Kms. from the city on Udaipur-Chittorgarh road.
The School has adopted the choice based credit system (CBCS). Core Courses open specialised elective Courses, Non Credit Courses, Ability enhancement Courses are offered on the basis of the choice of the students subject to the merit of the student and rules & regulations of the
School.
The option to choose open elective specialization (Special Courses) M.S.W. Semesters III & IVwill be governed by the following conditions :
In all the Semester Examinations, candidates must obtain least 36 per cent marks in each course and 40 per cent of the aggregate marks for passing, No Division will be assigned on the result of the I, II & III Semester’s Examinations. The division will be awarded at the end of the IV Semester Examination for which marks of all the four semester examinations will be taken together.
– First Division- 60 per cent of the aggregate marks.
– Second Division- 50 per cent of the aggregate marks.
– Third Division-40 per cent of the aggregate marks.
A student failing in the examination in any one of the three i.e. theory, field work or research and clearly passing in the remaining two, subject to the condition that none of his theory papers is due, shall be covered as per one of the clauses, which ever is applicable given below :
A student passing in theory but failing in field work will in future in the same semester complete the field work and all its requirements by seeking admission as a regular student with prior permission of the University and also paying one third of the total college fee and full examination fee. He will not be required to reappear in the theory examinaion again and marks obtained by him earlier shall be considered.
A student passing in field work and failing in theory shall be allowed, with prior permission of the University and paying University examination fee, appear in the theory examination as an ex-student.
A student passing in the theory and field work but failing in research project, shall be allowed with prior permission of the university and paying University examination fee, by seeking admission in the third semester and appear in the examination of the fourth semester by completing the research project work.
In a professional course like Social Work, maximum emphasis is laid on responsibility and regularity in work and good conduct and exemplary behavior by the students. The students must have a minimum of 75 per cent attendance in theory classes failing which they may not be allowed to appear in the University examinations. In each course, 5 marks have been allotted for attendance.
In the first part the students are placed for field work in the Community Centres run by the Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (Deemed-to-be-University) in rural areas and other agencies which serve as laboratories for students of Social Work and the faculty members of the School. Placement in these and other Social Welfare agencies are made by the Coordinator/In charge of Field Work.In the second part, field work placements are made in line with special courses opted.
Field Work is on all the Fridays and Saturdays during both the parts and the students must complete at least 150 (one hundred fifty) hours of actual field work in each semester and by working for at least 25 weeks in each part. Marks will be awarded on the basis of evaluation by internal supervisors and performances in
Viva-Voce.
Towards the beginning of the Semester-IT, each student will have to choose an option from the available research options namely Research Project (Dissertation) / Live Project Report/ Applied Research Method. by the students. Those opting for the field of Human Resource Management are placed in the factories and mines in and around Udaipur, while the others are placed according to their chosen field of specialization.
For the Research Project (Dissertation), each student will have to prepare the design and tools for conducting an individual/group research project for which data will have to be collected during the summer vacations and the writing up of the research project shall be completed in Semester-III &Semester-IV of the Second Part.
The final and typed draft of the research project will be submitted in duplicate by the student. The coordinator/lncharge of research issues necessary guidelines regarding research which will have to be strictly followed by the students. The
research project shall be type-written and submitted in duplicate so as to reach the office of the registrar three weeks before the commencement of theory examinations. The Project Report and viva-voce will carry 100 marks.
The Applied Research Method Paper will be based on strengthening the foundation of researcher on research by teaching basic research skills and concepts needed to plan, conduct, and analyze data from a research project. Skills including performing literature searches, questionnaire development, scale construction, data cleaning and management, data manipulation and analysis, and interpretation and report writing will be taught. The Applied Research Method paper will carry l 00 marks.
After the Semester-TV University examinations are over, the students have to complete a two-month practical training (block placement) in an appropriate agency under suitable guidance. It is important that they have to complete this training and send the required report etc. at the earliest to the teacher incharge. It is only on the satisfactory completion of this training and submission of certificates, diaries etc, the University will award the degree.
The National Service Scheme Programme will be undertaken by the students of M.S.W. Part-I and II.
The school also provides facilities for games like Table Tennis, Badminton, Volley- Ball etc. The School also organizes inter-class games competitions and participate in Inter-college Tournaments organized by the University. The Annual Sports meet is also organized by the School.
Since the students of Social Work will have to play a role in the development of their profession, all the students have members of the Forum for Social Workers. The office bearers of the Forum will consist of six members three from Part-II and three from Part-I in the order of merit. The Forum will guide the students in all professional, curricular, extra-curricular and other student activities, and will represent the students at the University and other Forums.
Application for admission must be in the prescribed from which can beobtained from the School office with the Information Bulletin on payment ofRs.500/- (lfbypost Rs.700/-) by account payee Bank Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Principal, Udaipur School of Social Work, Udaipur. Filled in application form must be accompanied by:
Registration Fee of Rs. 800/-. This amount may be remitted by account payee Bank Demand Draft which must be crossed and drawn in favour of the Principal, Udaipur School of Social Work, Udaipur. Those who personally submit the application at Office may deposit Rs. 800/- in cash. The registration fee is non-refundable.
Two attested copies of the mark-sheets of the degree or equivalent qualifying examination passed. Those who are awaiting the Final Year result should give I & II year marks which should be 40 percent and above.
Two attested copies of the Secondary/High School examination certificate.
Attested copies or originals of two recent testimonials regarding the candidate’s character and ability, from responsible persons who have known him/her intimately. One of these must be from the Head of the Institution last attended by the candidate.
A certificate about the annual income of parent/guardian shall be supports the student.
In addition to the above, a candidate may also attach attested copies of documents testifying to his/her proficiency in extra-curricularactivities, social service etc.
Candidates, admitted from other than the Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (Deemed-to-be) University, are required to produce migration certificate of theUniversity from which they are migrated and originals of degree, Sr. Secondary, Secondary certificates and marksheets. Applications that do not contain the registration fee and documents listed above, or areotherwise faculty or incomplete, shall be rejected. Any change of address must be communicated to the School immediately.
Every application that appears to be in order will be registered in the order of their receipt in the School office. Those who wise to obtain the Registration Number and acknowledgment of the application form should attach self addressed and duly stamped envelope. In all future correspondence regarding the candidatore, candidate must quote the Registration Number.
The selection for admissions to M.S.W. Part-I will be determined on the basis of the merit of marksobtained in X, XII and Bachelor Degree in the manner given:-
Bachelor’s Degree – 40%
12 th – 20%
10 th – 20%
Personal Interview – 20%

Those awaiting result of TDC Final Year may also apply and will be considered for admission provisionally subject to the condition that they will submit their final year TDC marksheet hardcopy by 30 November 2024.
If the required number of Applicant do not apply on or before 31 st July 2024 the institution will adopt the policy of open admission.
The School does not provide any financial assistance to the scholars. However, students are eligible for the Government oflndia and Government of Rajasthan Scholarships, which are available to various categories of students.
The School Library has about 13,000 books and a large number of journals, reports and other documents. The collection represents a very useful and complete working library for staff and students. About 50 important Journals and Periodicals in Social Work as well as related fields are received currently. Books in Hindi are also available.
